Libri is a privately run, non-commercial application for keeping track of your own books. Nothing is sold or advertised here and there is no intent to profit. Using it requires an account, which stays fully in your control: you create it yourself, and you can delete it — along with everything in it — at any time.
Privacy Policy
1. Controller
The controller for this processing is Giner Aaron, reachable at contact@gineraaron.com.
2. What is stored
The application stores only what it needs in order to work:
- Account: your account is not held here. It belongs to Ginius Hub at hub.ginius.org, which is where you sign in and where your password is stored, under the same controller named above. Libri keeps only the account number the Hub gave you, a copy of your name, and which of its two languages you chose, so that the books below can belong to somebody. Libri never sees your password. The Hub's own privacy policy covers what it stores.
- Your books: for each book on your shelf, its title, authors, ISBN, year of publication, format, page count, how and when you came by it, what you paid, your reading status, the dates you started and finished it, your rating and the review you wrote. A review is your own writing about what you read, and can be as personal as you make it.
- Cover images: stored as files on this server. A cover found in the catalogue is downloaded once by the server; a cover you photograph or upload is stored as you sent it. The database holds only the address of the file.
Nothing is collected automatically: no location, no device sensors, no contacts, no analytics or tracking services, no advertising networks, no profiling and no automated decision-making.
3. The book catalogue
Searching for a book sends what you typed — a title, an author or an ISBN — to the Google Books API, operated by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC (United States), which answers with matching records. This is the one place where anything leaves this server.
The request is made by this server, not by your browser. Google therefore sees the search text and this server's IP address; it does not see yours, receives no cookie of yours, and cannot tell one reader of this application from another. Cover images are downloaded by the server in the same way and then served from here, which is why opening your shelf loads nothing from anyone else. What you search for is not logged by Libri beyond the ordinary access log in section 4, and neither your account nor anything about your shelf goes out with the query.
The legal basis is the legitimate interest in offering a book search that does not require you to type every field by hand (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The transfer reaches the United States; Google is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has issued an adequacy decision. If you would rather nothing left the server at all, add your books with Add a book by hand and no request is made.
The barcode scanner uses your device's camera. The picture is read inside your browser and is never sent anywhere: no frame is uploaded, none is stored, and nothing is kept once the scanner is closed. What leaves your device is only the thirteen-digit number that was read, as an ordinary catalogue search of the kind described above. The camera runs only while the scanner is open and is released the moment it is closed. A cover you deliberately photograph is a different matter — that picture is uploaded and kept, as section 2 says.
4. Access logs and IP addresses
Every request is logged on the server. Those logs contain the IP address of the device making the request, along with the time, the address requested, the HTTP method and the response status. They exist for running the service, for finding faults and for fending off abuse. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in a secure and functioning service (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are not joined with your account and expire with the usual system rotation.
5. Cookies and local storage
Libri sets exactly one cookie: the session cookie that keeps you signed in here. It is cryptographically signed, sent over HTTPS only, and expires after a year or when you log out. Signing in also sets cookies on hub.ginius.org (or hub.gineraaron.com, if you opened this app at its older address), described in the Hub's own privacy policy; those are set by the Hub on its own address and are never sent to this one. Signing out — here or in any other Ginius Hub app — ends the session here as well: the Hub tells this app over the server's own internal network, passing nothing but your account number, and the cookie stops being accepted from that moment, on this device and on every other one. Your device additionally remembers, locally, the language you chose, the tab you last had open, whether you prefer the shelf as covers or as a list, and the order you sort it by. Those local values never leave your device. So that the installed app works offline, the browser also keeps a local cache of the program files — not of your books.
6. No third-party content in the page
The page itself loads nothing from outside servers. Even the typefaces and the cover images are served from here rather than fetched from Google Fonts, from Google Books or from anyone else, which is precisely why the search in section 3 is made by the server. Opening the page therefore creates no connection to a third party, and your IP address is passed to no one. The one transfer that does happen is the catalogue search described in section 3, and that one is made by the server on your behalf.
7. Purposes and legal bases
Your books, your covers and the account number they hang from are processed for one purpose only: to keep the library you signed up to keep, which is performance of that arrangement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). For log data and for the catalogue search, the legitimate interests set out in sections 3 and 4 apply.
8. Retention and deletion
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. Deleting a book removes its row and its cover file straight away. You can delete the whole account yourself at any time: the entry in the settings menu takes you to Ginius Hub, which is where the account lives. Deleting it there irreversibly removes the account and instructs Libri to remove every book, review and cover image it holds for you, along with everything any other Ginius Hub app holds; there is no recovery. If Libri cannot be reached at that moment, nothing is deleted anywhere and you are asked to try again, so your books can never be left behind with no account attached to them. Access logs are not covered by this, as they are not tied to an account.
9. Sharing with third parties
Your library is shared with no one. It sits on a self-operated server; there are no processors, nothing is sold, and no book, review or rating is transferred anywhere. The only outbound request this application makes is the catalogue search in section 3, which carries the words you searched for and nothing about you or your shelf.
10. Security
The connection is encrypted with HTTPS throughout. Your password is never sent to Libri: you type it at Ginius Hub, which protects it with scrypt, a deliberately slow algorithm built for the purpose, and Libri is handed only a single-use code that it redeems once over a connection that never leaves the server. Each account sees only its own books and covers; that separation is enforced on every single query.
11. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You can export your entire library as a CSV file yourself at any time, from the settings menu — in a format this application can also read back in. For anything else, a message to the contact address above is enough. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your competent data protection supervisory authority.

2. Was gespeichert wird
Was der Hub selbst speichert, steht in dessen eigener Datenschutzerklärung.
9. Weitergabe an Dritte
